Bodart considering retirement

Belgian keeper Gilbert Bodart will be out for at least another six months because of injury.

Gilbert Bodart, the 39-year-old Belgian goalkeeper, will be out of action for a further six months after failing to fully recover from a head injury he sustained in November while playing for KSK Beveren.

Severe injury
Bodart clashed with Sporting Lokeren St-Niklaas Waaslan striker Sambegon Bangoura and suffered severe concussion which has left him considering retirement as his contract runs out with Beveren at the end of this season.

Considering retirement
"Prior to that accident, I am sure I was able to play another two seasons," said the former Belgian international. "But, having considered stopping playing, I am now hoping to get back. I will take care of myself and try to get back to fitness as soon as possible. In a few months, I will decide whether I will be fit to play or not. If I am OK I will try for another club or stop playing which is a possibility if the last medical diagnosis is not good."

International caps
Bodart returned to Belgian football and Beveren in August 2001 after a three-year spell in Italy with Ravenna and Brescia Calcio. He has 12 Belgium caps and last appeared for the national side against Denmark in 1995.
