Victor Remiro Sorento will become the first Brazilian to play in Latvia.

Victor Remiro Sorento will become the first Brazilian to play in Latvia, after FC Dinaburg announced he has signed a six-month contract with the club.

Coach trusts scouts
The 20-year-old defender has played for a number of Japanese and Brazilian clubs, and although Dinaburg head coach Roman Grigorchuk had not seen the player in action himself, he said he trusted his scouts and was sure of Sorento's future at the club.

Looking to sign other Brazilians
"It is quite possible Sorento will not be the only Brazilian at the club, because we are currently looking to sign another player from there," Grigorchuk said, before going on to joke: "This will make Dinaburg the most techinically advanced team in the Virsliga."

UEFA Intertoto Cup place
This year's Virsliga begins on 4 April. Dinaburg were fourth in 2001, and will play in this summer's UEFA Intertoto Cup.

Players may leave
Ukrainian defender Hennadiy Prihodko and Russian forward Pyotr Rusak left Dinaburg over the winter break, and the future of team captain and Latvian international Jurgis Pucinskis and Oleh Dorosh, is still uncertain, Grigorchuk admitted. Both players have been targeted by bigger clubs both in Latvia and abroad.
