AS Roma's French defender Jonathan Zébina has been handed a three-match suspension following his dismissal for striking Internazionale FC's Alvaro Recoba in the face during Sunday's top-of-the-table meeting in Serie A.
Fine as well as suspension
Zébina, who was dismissed 12 minutes from the end of Roma's 3-1 defeat in Milan, must also pay a €5,000 fine, the Italian Football League's disciplinary committee ruled today.
Two-game ban for Belözoglu
Inter's Turkish international midfield player Emre Belözoglu, who was sent off in added time in the same game after kicking out at Roma's Brazilian midfield player Emerson da Rosa, has been banned for two games.
Three others ruled out
As well as Zébina, Roma will also be without three other players for Saturday's meeting with fourth-placed Bologna FC.
Brazilian duo Marco Assunçao and Cafu and Italy striker Marco Delvecchio were given one-match suspensions after they were booked on Sunday, having been a yellow card away from a ban prior to the game.
Further punishment for Roma
The suspensions come a week after Roma were fined by UEFA and banned from their stadium for their next European game. This followed disturbances at the end of their UEFA Champions League match with Galatasaray SK.
