Latvia round-up: Ventspils and Skonto win

FK Ventspils continued their excellent form on Sunday, as they overcame rivals FHK Liepajas Metalurgs 1-0 to reinforce their position on top of Latvian Virsliga.

In a dramatic encounter in Ventspils, Latvian international Vits Rimkus scored three minutes into injury time to secure the hosts' second consecutive victory over key rivals in the title race, having beaten champions FC Skonto last week.

Champions bounce back
Skonto cruised past FBK Valmiera, scoring a 3-0 win to recover from last week's defeat to the leaders. Latvian international forwards Maris Verpakovskis and Mihails Miholpas scored a goal apiece and Georgian Alexander Rekhviashvili added the third.

Derby win for Riga
FK LU/Daugava lost the derby with FK Riga courtesy of 36th-minute strike from Maris Leshinskis, the winners' first league goal of the season.

Hard-fought victory
Hennadiy Prihodjko scored the only goal as FK Dinaburg celebrated a hard-fought 1-0 victory over FK Auda.
