Pavels Kolcovs gave the hosts a surprise lead on 55 minutes, but Bulgarian defender Gospodin Gospodinov restored parity ten minutes later. Vits Rimkus's late clincher then secured the points and avenged his team's defeat by Dinaburg on the last day of last season which handed the title to Skonto.
Skonto sail by
The champions eased past Liepajas 3-0 in Riga. A goal on the stroke of half-time by Latvian international Maris Verpakovskis sent them on their way before Mihails Miholaps and Levan Korgalidze completed the rout.
Riga rock bottom
