ŠK Matador Púchov moved a step closer to UEFA Cup qualification tonight with a 3-1 home victory over ŠK Slovan Bratislava in the 1. Liga.
Up for grabs
With MŠK Zilina already crowned champions of the Superliga, the race is on for the runners-up spot and a place in the UEFA Cup qualifiers.
Clear of the pack
Púchov moved three points clear ahead of AŠK Inter Bratislava and MŠK Ruzomberok after goals from Mário Breska, Peter Vavrík, Lubos Pernis gave them a comfortable win. Ladislav Onofrej was on target for Slovan. Meanwhile Ruzomberok moved level on points with Inter with a 4-2 success against FC Artmedia Petrzalka
Survival hopes
The lone relegation place in the Slovakian first division is still to be decided with 1. FC Košice and FC Tatran Prešov battling it out to avoid the drop. Bottom of the table Košice gave their survival hopes a boost with a 1-0 win at FK Dukla Trencín. They are now four points adrift of Tatran, who drew 1-1 against FK ZTS Dubnica, with three games to go.
