Encouraging starts
Both teams have had encouraging starts to the season, and their clash provided plenty of entertainment for the 5,000 crowd at St Patrick's Richmond Park.
Crowe on song
After a tight first half, it was the visitors who took the lead on 37 minutes. Bobby Ryan released Glenn Crowe who turned his marker before giving Stephen Kenny's side the lead with a fine shot.
Russell strikes back
However, the home side upped the tempo after the break and had several chances to equalise before Martin Russell finally tied things up on 75 minutes with a low effort from outside the box.
Cork make no mistake
Elsewhere, Cork City FC maintained their 100 per cent home record with a 3-0 win over Bray Wanderers AFC. John O'Flynn scored his 10th goal of the season after 12 minutes to put Liam Murphy's men ahead.
Red card for Lynch
Greg O'Halloran struck on 33 minutes before George O'Callaghan secured the points when he added a third on 70 minutes. Jody Lynch was sent off for Bray in the closing minutes to add to their miserable start to the season.
Shelbourne in form
Shelbourne FC had a comfortable 3-0 victory against Longford Town FC at Tolka Park. Stuart Byrne opened the scoring against his old club with a header from Ollie Cahill's corner. Cahill added a second after the restart and Jim Crawford a third on 71 minutes.
Joy for Derry
Derry City FC claimed their first three points of the season with a 2-0 away success at University College Dublin FC, who replace them at the foot of the table. Gary Beckett gave Derry the lead after 34 minutes, and in a tight game, it was former UCD man Ciaran Martyn who grabbed the crucial second goal on 82 minutes.
Drogheda fight back
Drogheda United FC beat struggling Shamrock Rovers 3-2 thanks to Andy Myler's late effort. The home team had led through Brian Kelly's brace - but two goals in three second-half minutes from Richie Byrne and Noel Hunt brought Rovers level.
