FA Premiership newcomers West Bromwich Albion FC have signed young goalkeeper Joe Murphy.

Four-year deal
The newly promoted side coached by former Manchester United FC player Steve Bruce signed the 20-year-old Irish goalkeeper on a four-year deal from second division side Tranmere Rovers FC. Murphy's contract at Prenton Park ran out last month but West Brom will still have to pay the club compensation because the keeper is too young to be available on a free transfer.

'One for the future'
Manager Gary Megson told the club's official website: "With the transfer window closing in August we felt it was important to be strong in the goalkeeping department and I am pleased we have managed to get Joe. We watched him a few times last year and he's one for the future. But although he's a young lad, he's got a fair bit of experience at [English Football] League level. We are now trying to bring other players in."
