Former Norwegian international striker Jan Åge Fjørtoft has decided to retire from football.

Veteran striker Jan Åge Fjørtoft has decided to retire from football.

Well travelled
Following the arrival of both Rikhardur Dadason and Uwe Rösler at Lillestrøm SK, Fjørtoft - whose career has seen him play in Austria for SK Rapid Wien, in England for Swindon Town FC, Middlesbrough FC, Sheffield United FC and Barnsley FC and in Germany for Eintracht Frankfurt - believes that his Tippeligaen opportunities will be limited as of next season.

'Very positive lad'
"We have to redefine my part at the club. I'll contribute in other areas,'' the 35-year-old said and coach Arne Erlandsen has plans for the former Norwegian international. "I'll make use of him for the benefit of the club off the pitch,'' he said. "He could be scouting, promoting the club and assist us in training. We'd also like to help Jan Åge educate himself as a coach.'' Erlandsen feels that Fjørtoft has made an impact at the club, even though he failed to score in his four appearances. "He's a very positive lad who I feel we need in the future,'' he added.
