Lysácek checks Zilina
The champions were undone by Petr Lysácek's 47th-minute goal as Dubnica, eighth in the league last term, claimed a deserved 1-0 home success.
A man down
Zilina's best chance fell to Miroslav Barcík whose shot was saved by Pavol Kovác, and their hopes of a comeback ended with the sending-off of defender Radoslav Zábavník.
Spartak denied
FC Spartak Trnava would have leapfrogged Zilina into first place but for Martin Obsitník's late equaliser in a 2-2 draw at 1. FC Košice.
Own goal
The visitors had looked set to take maximum points when an own goal from Marián Juhás handed them the initiative on 66 minutes following earlier strikes by Košice's Ján Kozák and Spartak's Roman Konecný.
Late leveller
However, Obsitník capitalised on a mistake in the Spartak defence to leave the pretenders a point behind Zilina in second spot. The team in third position also failed to take advantage of Zilina's slip as MŠK Ruzomberok lost 4-3 at FK Laugaricio Trencín.
All square in Bratislava
Meanwhile, AŠK Inter Bratislava beat bottom club ŠKM Púchov 2-0, while in Sunday's capital derby, FC Artmedia Petrzalka were held 1-1 by ŠK Slovan Bratislava.
