Olympique Lyonnais failed to make a winning start to their title defence.

Olympique Lyonnais failed to make a winning start to their defence of the French championship after losing a two-goal lead in the dying minutes of their match at En Avant Guingamp to draw 3-3.

Juninho opens scoring
Lyon looked to be headed for their first opening-day victory in eleven years when Brazilian midfield player Juninho scored with a 25-metre lob just three minutes into the match. Stéphane Carnot volleyed an equaliser on 24 minutes but Juninho helped restore Lyon's lead just after the half-hour mark when his free-kick was headed in by Jean-Marc Chanelet.

Dramatic comeback
The visitors seemed to have wrapped up their first three-point haul in the renamed Ligue 1 after captain Sonny Anderson took advantage of a 51st-minute slip from Guingamp defender Blaise Kouassi, but the home side were given hope when striker Cedric Bardon pulled one back with two minutes left, and their fans were sent home happy when substitute Didier Drogba - who had replaced Bardon - levelled the scores in added time.

'A perfect start'
A downbeat Lyon coach Paul Le Guen said after the game: "When you are leading 3-1 with just five minutes to go you must win. We are really disappointed. There is not much to say." In better spirits, Guingamp coach Bernard Marchand said: "It's a perfect start for us. The guys were brave and they never gave it up. It's a good point for the future. We have played 90 minutes at the highest level as Lyon are one of the best sides in the league. We proved we have a great potential and a great will."
