AJ Auxerre secured their first win of the season with a 2-0 victory against Montpellier Hérault SC.

Striker Djibrill Cissé was on form for AJ Auxerre as they secured their first win of the French Ligue 1 season with a 2-0 victory against ten-man Montpellier Hérault SC.

Headed opener
Cissé, top scorer in Le Championnat last season with 22 goals, showed he is in similar form this term by putting Auxerre ahead on 72 minutes, heading in a cross from Finnish winger Teemu Tainio. The goal came ten minutes after the dismissal of Montpellier's Habib Bamogo.

First goal for Auxerre
Auxerre dominated possession with the extra man and were rewarded in the final minute when Cissé turned provider for Benjamin Mwaruwari, the Zimbabwean hitting his first goal for the club following a neat through-ball.

Useful boost
Auxerre's win moves them up to fourth in the embryonic league table, a useful boost ahead of their fixture against Portugal's Boavista FC in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round next week. Montpellier are seventh, with the same three-point total as Auxerre.
