Champions Shelbourne FC returned to top form in the FAI National League tonight when they won 5-1 at Bray Wanderers AFC.

Gormley off
Midfield player Jim Crawford gave Shelbourne the lead after 29 minutes, but Bray striker Jason Byrne equalised before half-time. Defender Barry Prenderville restored Shelbourne's advantage after 53 minutes and, after Eddie Gormley was sent off, left-back David Crawley scored from the penalty spot on 71 minutes to make it 3-1. Further goals from Stuart Byrne and Mark Roberts put a more convincing look on the final score.

Only goal
In the evening's other match, St Patrick's Athletic FC defeated Dublin rivals Shamrock Rovers FC at Tolka Park. The only goal came after 12 minutes against the run of play, when Welsh striker Tony Bird headed home a left-wing cross from Martin Russell. St Patrick's have now won both their league games to date, and have two games in hand on leaders Bohemians FC.
