Stalemate at Schalke
New Hertha coach Huub Stevens frustrated his old team by deploying a defensive formation on his return to the Arena AufSchalke. In fact, it was the visitors who came closest to breaking the deadlock, first when Schalke defender Tomasz Hajto struck his own post, then when the Brazilian Nene also hit the woodwork.
Hertha yet to win
Schalke lie fourth in the table, with Hertha in ninth place despite having failed to win any of their three opening fixtures.
Hannover lose again
In the meeting of the promoted sides, Sasa Ciric scored twice to condemn Hannover 96 to a third straight defeat, 3-1 at 1. FC Nürnberg. The Macedonian international struck on 16 and 36 minutes before Jeronimo Cacau Baretto added a third early in the second half.
Consolation goal
Hannover's goal came via the penalty spot, Babacar N'Diaye converting after Tony Sanneh had handled in the area.
