Record breakers
The Gunners, undefeated in the league since December and chasing a record 15th consecutive Premiership win, appeared to have been undone by goals either side of half-time from Joe Cole and Frédéric Kanouté.
Wiltord to the rescue
Thierry Henry had missed a couple of chances before the home side went in front, yet made amends with the sensational strike that brought the visitors back into the game on 65 minutes. And after Kanouté had a penalty saved by David Seaman, Henry's French international team-mate Sylvain Wiltord secured a point with a right-foot shot on 87 minutes.
Diouf double
Meanwhile, Arsenal's likely title rivals Liverpool FC eased past Southampton FC at Anfield. Senegalese international El Hadji Diouf marked his home debut with goals on three and 51 minutes, before Danny Murphy iced the cake with a late penalty.
City haunt Newcastle
Newcastle United FC were haunted by a couple of old boys in the match at Maine Road. Former Newcastle striker Darren Huckerby headed a goal on 37 minutes to give Manchester City FC and their manager Kevin Keegan, still a hero at St James' Park, a 1-0 victory.
Redknapp wins Spurs
Elsewhere, Jamie Redknapp was the difference between Tottenham Hotspur FC and Aston Villa FC at White Hart Lane. The former Liverpool man's first-half strike proved enough as Spurs held on for a 1-0 win.
Yorke lifts Blackburn
Blackburn Rovers FC's Dwight Yorke was another new boy to impress, his 13th-minute effort beating newly-promoted Birmingham City FC at St Andrews. Meanwhile, Everton FC darkened the mood at the Stadium of Light with a 1-0 away success against Sunderland AFC. Kevin Campbell was the match-winner but Everton goalkeeper Richard Wright played his part by saving a penalty.
Charlton prevail
Charlton Athletic FC came from behind to prevail 2-1 at Bolton Wanderers FC. Jason Euell clinched the points on 71 minutes after Chris Bart-Williams had cancelled out Youri Djorkaeff's second-minute opener from the penalty spot.
Comeback kings
There was another exciting comeback at the Riverside Stadium, Middlesbrough FC being pegged back by stoppage-time goals from Sean Davis and Facundo Sava in a 2-2 draw with Fulham FC. Middlesbrough had led through Massimo Maccarone's double strike.
Leeds win away
Premiership new boys West Bromwich Albion FC lost 3-1 at home to Leeds United AFC in today's late game. Goals from Harry Kewell, Mark Viduka and Lee Bowyer did the damage with Lee Marshall's last-minute effort little consolation for the home side.
