Birmingham City FC took the honours with a stirring 3-0 derby victory against Aston Villa FC tonight.

Bizarre goal
The hosts had strikers Clinton Morrison and Geoff Horsfield to thank for two of the strikes, but it was a bizarre own goal in between that had everyone talking at St Andrews after the first game between the two old rivals since 1987.

No problem
Morrison, the Republic of Ireland striker, set Birmingham on their way with his third goal in two games. It came in the 31st minute after he was played in by team-mate Robbie Savage. The striker found himself unmarked in front of goal and had no problem in beating Peter Enckleman.

Alpay mistake
The victory was assured 13 minutes from time when Villa goalkeeper Enckleman inexplicably failed to control a throw-in from team-mate Olof Mellberg and, under no pressure, knocked the ball into his own net. Six minutes later, after a mistake from Villa defender Alpay, Horsfield strode through to make it three.
