Article body
VfL Bochum 1848 missed the chance to take over at the summit of the 1. Bundesliga as they suffered a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of FC Hansa Rostock on Sunday.
Rostock up to second
The victory lifted Hansa above their hosts into second place in the table, one point adrift of leaders FC Bayern München. Thordur Gudjonsson almost gave Hansa the lead on 17 minutes, but saw his effort come back off the post, before Rene Rydlewicz's shot was well saved by goalkeeper Rein van Duijnhoven.
Salou opener
The only goal of the game arrived after 33 minutes when the visitors took advantage of another mistake by the opposition. Bochum's Filip Tapalovic was dispossessed in his own penalty area by Kevin Hansen who supplied Rydlewicz. He could not score, but Baschirou Salou was on hand to bundle the ball over the line through a pack of players for a priceless goal.
Romeo double
Hamburger SV ended their run of three straight defeats and climbed to 12th place in the standings, after beating 1. FC Kaiserslautern 2-0 at the AOL Arena. The visitors kept the scoreline goalless until the 66th minute, but were undone by Raphael Wicky who threaded a pass through for striker Bernardo Romeo to score.
Struggling Kaiserslautern
Any hopes new Kaiserslautern coach Eric Gerets had of a point vanished when Cristian Ledesma capitalised on a stray pass from Ciriaco Sforza to set up Romeo for a well-taken second goal in the 77th minute. Kaiserslautern won their opening seven matches of last season before plummeting to a final position of seventh. They have just two points from five matches so far this campaign.
