BV Borussia Dortmund were held to a 1-1 draw by Hamburger SV, while TSV 1860 München won to move into third place.

Reigning champions BV Borussia Dortmund missed the chance to take over at the top of the German table with a 1-1 draw against Hamburger SV, while TSV 1860 München won to move into third place.

Late goal
Matthias Sammer's side needed a win against Hamburg to take a one-point lead over FC Bayern München at the top of the 1. Bundesliga, but a late goal from substitute Kim Christensen denied them a home win on Saturday.

Close range
Czech Republic international midfield player Tomáš Rosický had opened the scoring for the champions with a volley from inside the penalty area after 67 minutes, but Christensen equalised from close range with a minute of normal time remaining two minutes after his team-mate Bernd Hollerbach had missed a penalty.

Bayern in command
Erik Meijer was shown the red card for Hamburg as the game went into added time, but Dortmund could not find an equaliser, and Bayern have the chance to take a five-point lead at the top of the table as they travel to SV Werder Bremen on Sunday.

Joy for 1860
Bayern's local rivals 1860 are in third place after a 3-1 win at home to DSC Arminia Bielefeld. Veteran Croatian striker Davor Šuker opened the scoring for 1860 after 14 minutes and, though Artur Wichniarek levelled for the visitors within a minute, goals in the 30th and 38th minutes from Benjamin Lauth wrapped up the win for 1860.

Schalke plod on
FC Schalke 04 are in fourth place, a point behind 1860 and two adrift of Dortmund, after Andreas Möller's 79th-minute strike was enough to earn them a 1-0 win at FC Energie Cottbus, while Silvio Meissner's 19th-minute effort gave VfB Stuttgart a 1-0 win at Bayer 04 Leverkusen that takes them into fifth place.

Ciric on target
Sasa Ciric scored his eighth goal of the season as 1. FC Nürnberg won 2-1 against VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach. Marek Nikl had scored an eighth minute opener before Ciric found the target after 22 minutes. A 75th-minute Jeff Strasser goal gave Mönchengladbach hope , but Stephane Stassin's dismissal after 89 minutes ended their challenge.

Hannover on top
Elsewhere, Hannover 96 earned a 3-1 win against VfL Wolfsburg. Daniel Stendel and Fredi Bobic both struck within five first-half minutes to put the home side ahead, and though Dorinel Munteanu pulled a goal back for Wolfsburg after 76 minutes, an 82nd-minute strike from Kostas Konstantinidis confirmed Hannover's win.

Kaiserslautern held
Finally, 1.FC Kaiserslautern continue to slide down the table as they drew 2-2 at FC Hansa Rostock. Vratislav Lokvenc cancelled out Rene Rydlewicz's 17th minute opener for Hansa after 22 minutes, and Michael Mifsud came to Kaiserslautern's rescue in the second half, cancelling out Marco Vorbeck's 72nd-minute goal just six minutes later.
