Marsaxlokk FC beat Hamrun Spartans 4-1 on Tuesday in one of two matches involving the bottom four clubs.

Marsaxlokk FC defeated Hamrun Spartans 4-1 tonight in one of two matches played involving the Maltese Premier League's bottom four clubs at the Centenary stadium.

Up to sixth
Marsaxlokk's victory, however, saw them climb to sixth in the ten-team table with 12 points from ten matches, while Marsa FC remain bottom after a 1-1 home draw against Mosta FC. Mosta are in eighth position with nine points, one clear of Hamrun.

Formosa on song
Joseph John Aquilina's Marsaxlokk side went into their match on the back of two confidence-boosting victories, against champions Hibernians FC and Senglea Athletic FC in the FA Trophy, and it showed as Carmel Formosa put them ahead after just nine minutes.

Zammit on target
Johann Zammit struck the second goal for Marsaxlokk on 27 minutes before Richard Buhagiar completed the first-half scoring in the 35th minute. Formasa made it 4-0 15 minutes from time and Charlo Magro scored for Hamrun in added time.

Postponed on Sunday
In the other match played tonight after being postponed on Sunday due to torrential rain, Dyson Falzon put Mosta ahead just before the hour but Kenneth Abela replied to salvage a much-needed point for Marsa.
