Birkirkara FC beat Marsaxlokk FC to go joint second - four points adrift of leaders Sliema Wanderers FC.

In the only Maltese Premier League game of the evening at the Centenary Stadium, Birkirkara FC beat Marsaxlokk FC 4-2 to go joint second with Valletta FC - four points adrift of leaders Sliema Wanderers FC.

Early lead
Birkirkara took an early lead when Lino Galea's perfect cross from the left was headed past Reggie Cini and into the net by Michael Galea. Marsaxlokk drew level on 19 minutes thanks to Johan Zammit's diving header from Pierre Grima's perfectly-executed free-kick.

Dronca converts
Five minutes after the break a fine move between Roderick Briffa and Chucks Nwoko released George Mallia, and his shot was partially parried by substitute goalkeeper Sandro Micallef before finishing in the back of the net to give Birkirkara the lead. Barely four minutes later Galea was brought down in the box by Trevor Templeman and Romanian Lucien Dronca converted his side's third.

Galea scores again
Twelve minutes from time, Matthew Calascione's cross found Galea who beat Micallef with another header to register his second of the night and take his tally for the season to ten goals - level with Sliema striker Danilo Doncic at the top of the country's goalscorers list. Two minutes later Zammit also scored his second goal of the night - and his seventh this season - to make the final score more respectable.
