NK Zeljeznicar midfield player Sead Seferovic has had his 12-month ban from UEFA matches extended worldwide, after FIFA announced the player was to be suspended from all matches following an announcement from the world governing body's disciplinary committee.
Tested positive
The Bosnia-Herzegovnian player tested positive for the banned substance ephedrine in samples taken after Zeljeznicar's UEFA Champions League third qualifying round match against Newcastle United FC on 14 August.
Ban extended
On being informed of his suspension by UEFA yesterday, FIFA's disciplinary committee today announced that the ban would be extended. Seferovic is suspended from all matches, both friendly and competitive, and at both national and international level, until 13 October 13 next year.
Considerable concentration
The positive test result was discovered in samples taken after the game by qualified drugs testers. It has been disclosed that Seferovic's sample contained considerable concentrations of ephedrine, which has been compared by experts to amphetamines.
