Article body
Romanian club FC Farul Constanta have agreed terms with coach Ion Marin for a six-month contract with an option for a further two-year extension. The deal will be signed in the middle of next week.
'Stay in top division'
Farul's main shareholder Gheorghe Bosinceanu, said, “All details were clarified. The aim for this season is maintaining [our place] in the first division. We would prefer to finish the season in the first half of the ranking.”
Tight table
After the first half of the Romanian championship, Farul are in 15th place, one off the bottom and deep in the relegation zone. However, they have 17 points, and are only four points adrift of eighth place, with fifth place a further point away.
Successful career
Marin, who enjoyed an enormously successful playing career with FC Dinamo Bucuresti, started his career as trainer in 1991. He spent five seasons at FC Petrolul Ploiesti in two spells, winning the FA Cup in 1995. He also led Farul to tenth place in 1996/97, and has enjoyed spells at Astra Ploiesti and Dinamo, whom he led to the league title in 2001/02.
Changes in Constanta
Marin was in charge of second division side FC Bihor Oradea, but left after a disagreement with Oradea's main investor Marius Vizer. In Constanta, Marin replaces Viorel Hizo, who was sacked on Christmas Eve, while Hizo’s former assistants, Marian Dinu and Constantin Garjoaba will reportedly be replaced by Cristian Camui.
