France round-up: Determined Lens peg back Lyon

A point at RC Lens was not enough to see Olympique Lyonnais wrest the initiative from Olympique de Marseille.

Olympique Lyonnais missed the chance to regain the Ligue 1 leadership when they drew 2-2 at RC Lens tonight.

Sibierski double
Antoine Sibierski gave Lens the lead after 19 minutes but Vikash Dhorasoo brought the visitors level just seven minutes later. Eric Carrière put Lyon ahead just before the break, but Sibierski struck his second goal of the night, and his eighth of the season, within a minute of the restart. The point saw Lyon cut Olympique de Marseille's lead at the top to two points, with both sides now having played 24 games.

Monaco go third
Elsewhere, AS Monaco FC moved into third place with a 2-0 win at FC Nantes Atlantique. Ludovic Giuly's fourth-minute strike put the visitors on their way before Shabani Nonda made sure of the points midway through the second half. "We were a little bit unlucky in our last two outings as we were twice held to a draw," said Monaco coach Didier Deschamps after the game. "Tonight we were rewarded for our efforts."

Auxerre miss their chance
AJ Auxerre missed the chance to move to within two points of the summit when they lost 2-0 at SC Bastia. Franck Silvestre and Florian Maurice's second-half goals secured the win which moves the Corsicans up to tenth, while Auxerre are sixth.

Pochettino winner
Paris Saint-Germain FC moved to within a point of Auxerre with a narrow 1-0 win against Lille OSC, Mauricio Pochettino's goal separating the two sides, while FC Girondins de Bordeaux remain level on points with PSG after Pascal Feindouno's goal secured a 1-0 win at ES Troyes Aube Champagne.

Boost for Le Havre
Le Havre AC gained a much-needed boost with a 2-1 win at En Avant Guingamp, as Montpellier Hérault SC lost 1-0 at home to fellow strugglers AC Ajaccio, Grégory Lacombe scoring the only goal of the game after 64 minutes. In the night's other games, CS Sedan-Ardennes edged out RC Strasbourg 2-1, while FC Sochaux-Montbéliard overcame Stade Rennais FC 1-0.
