Russian Premier-Liga newcomers FC Rubin Kazan have bolstered their squad with five new signings, including AC Sparta Praha captain Jiri Novotny.

High-profile signing
The 32-year-old Czech international defender is arguably the highest-profile foreign player to have moved to Russia, having been capped 33 times for his country. He has joined on a free transfer and has signed a one-year contract after 12 seasons at Sparta.

Cizek joins
Also parting with the Prague side for Rubin Kazan is 24-year-old midfield player Tomas Cizek, who has agreed a three-year contract, along with Uruguayan defender Andres Skotti from Nacional Montevideo, Costa Rican midfield player Carlos Castro from Deportiva Alajuelense and Peruvian midfield player Henry Quinteros from Alianza Lima.
