Bulgarian champions PFC Levski Sofia strengthened their defence just before the closure of the transfer window with two further acquisitions, it emerged today.
Mendoza impresses
Ecuadorean left-back Manuel Mendoza joined on a free transfer after spending a month on trial at the club's winter training camp in Turkey where he impressed coach Slavoljub Muslin.
Ibraimov arrival
Meanwhile Said Ibraimov has arrived from PFC Naftex Burgas, where he has played almost 200 league matches, scoring eleven goals. The 32-year-old is a versatile defender who will be used as a sweeper by Muslin. "I am really glad I have joined Levski," he said. "There are two big clubs in Bulgaria - [PFC] CSKA [Sofia]and Levski. A few years ago, I was very close to joining CSKA, but things have changed since then."
Title race
"For the whole transfer window, we were looking for a sweeper and a left-back," said Muslin, whose side are in second place in the Bulgarian Premier League at the winter break, eight points behind CSKA. "Now that we have signed these players I think that we are ready to fight against CSKA for the title. I really think that we might catch them."
