France round-up: Nine-man Bordeaux edge closer

FC Girondins de Bordeaux moved to within two points of the leaders after a dramatic draw against RC Strasbourg.

Jean-Claude Darcheville's penalty deep into added time salvaged a 1-1 draw for nine-man FC Girondins de Bordeaux in their French First Division encounter away at RC Strasbourg on Wednesday night.

Ljuboja lament
Bordeaux defender Eduardo Costa had been sent off for a tackle from behind on Ulrich Le Pen in the 19th minute and Strasbourg seemed set for victory when striker Danijel Ljuboja headed Fabrice Erhet's free-kick into the net on 64 minutes - but after Ljuboja missed a penalty five minutes later, the home side let Bordeaux back into the game.

Savio sees red
Despite being reduced to nine men when Brazilian striker Savio was dismissed on 86 minutes for arguing with the referee, the visitors still managed to force an equaliser. The third minute of injury time was being played when Maroman Chamakh was brought down in the area - and Darcheville made no mistake from the spot to earn a share of the spoils and move Bordeaux to within two points of leaders AS Monaco and Olympique de Marseille.
