Italy round-up: Juve restore advantage

Juventus FC restored their three-point lead at the top of Serie A with a 1-0 win at high-flying Udinese Calcio.

Trezeguet winner
Internazionale FC had moved level with the Turin side with a 2-1 victory against Bologna FC on Saturday, but Juventus took full advantage of the 61st-minute sending-off of Udinese's Giampiero Pinzi for a tackle on Edgar Davids, as David Trezeguet was introduced from the bench and with six minutes left converted Gianluca Zambrotta's low cross.

Milan held
AC Milan could have moved to within a point of Inter, but were frustrated as AC Chievo Verona earned a 0-0 draw at the San Siro. Milan are now six points behind Juventus, while Chievo are in fifth, just behind S.S. Lazio.

Ten men triumph
On a good day for Turin clubs, Torino Calcio gave themselves hope of avoiding relegation with a 1-0 win against Reggina Calcio. The match, played in Reggio Emilia due to crowd trouble during Torino's abandoned defeat by AC Milan, was settled by Marco Ferrante's 12th-minute penalty after Carlos Paredes brought down Cristiano Lucarelli inside the area. Torino had Fabio Galante sent off in the final minute for a second bookable offence, but had secured victory.

Empoli move up
Torino are now level on points with second-bottom Piacenza FC, who lost 3-1 to Empoli FC. Second-half goals by Australian international defender Vincenzo Grella and strikers Francesco Tavano and Marco Borriello moved Empoli up the table and ensured Dario Hübner's last-minute strike was only a consolation.

Brescia still unbeaten
Como Calcio are the third team locked on 16 points at the foot of the table after they drew 1-1 at Brescia Calcio. Fabio Pecchia put Como ahead on 54 minutes, but within seconds Luca Toni struck to level the scores and extend Brescia's unbeaten league run to 12 games.

Atalanta escape
Parma AC moved ahead of Udinese into sixth place as they drew 0-0 with Atalanta BC, who themselves overtook Reggina to escape the relegation zone, while Modena FC's bid to avoid a fall to Serie B was boosted with a 1-1 draw with AC Perugia.
