No way back for Cardetti

Paris Saint-Germain FC will be without striker Martin Cardetti for the rest of the season with a back injury.

Paris Saint-Germain FC will be without Martin Cardetti for the rest of the season after the striker sustained a serious back injury.

Training injury
The 27-year-old will undergo surgery today and will be out of action for at least three months. Cardetti picked up the injury in training four weeks ago, feeling a sharp pain at the bottom of his back as he hit the ball. Neither medication nor rest were able to cure the problem.

'Surgery the solution'
"Scans showed a cracked disc in his back," said PSG's head doctor Hakim Chalabi. "This disc presses the sciatic nerve. The surgery will put everything in order. There will be no after effects, but he will be out for three months."

Sparkling start
Cardetti began the season in fine form, scoring seven goals in his first 12 Ligue 1 games, but has not scored for PSG since 26 October. The Parisian side currently lie eighth in the table, and reached the semi-finals of the French Cup last weekend.
