Italy round-up: Late rally rescues Juventus

Members

Juventus FC opened up a six-point gap with a 2-2 draw at Bologna FC, while S.S. Lazio stay fourth.

Late drama
The leaders trailed 2-0 with less than five minutes of normal time remaining, but Alessio Tacchinardi's shot was deflected off Bologna defender Michele Paramatti to give the away team a glimmer of hope four minutes from the end. French midfield player Mourad Meghni then missed a golden opportunity to secure victory for the home side, shooting wide with only Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon to beat, before Mauro Camoranesi headed a Gianluca Zambrotta cross into the net five minutes into added time to give Juventus an unlikely draw.

Bologna take control
Julio Cruz opened the scoring for Bologna after 16 minutes, shooting past Buffon, before substitute Thomas Locatelli seemed to have given the home side the win, chipping Buffon with 17 minutes left to play. Juventus moved to 61 points, six ahead of AC Milan and Internazionale FC, who met on Saturday with Milan emerging 1-0 winners.

Lazio lead
Earlier in the day, S.S Lazio's chances of claiming fourth place in Serie A received a boost despite being held to a 0-0 draw at Modena FC. Lazio moved four points ahead of Parma AC and five above AC Chievo Verona, who both suffered away defeats, and are now well-placed to secure Italy's fourth qualifying spot for next season's UEFA Champions League.

Roma fightback
Parma were defeated 2-1 at AS Roma, despite taking the lead with a spectacular effort from an indirect free-kick from Brazilian striker Adriano five minutes before half-time. Roma drew level a minute into added time at the end of the first period through captain Francesco Totti, before Uruguayan midfield player Gianni Guigou scored what proved to be the winning goal 17 minutes from time.

Empoli earn victory
Chievo also allowed a lead to slip, as Sasa Bjelanovic put them in front at Empoli FC after seven minutes. However, goals in either half from Antonio Busce and Stefano Lucchini turned the match on its head as Empoli secured three important points in their struggle against relegation.

Strugglers draw
Empoli moved two points ahead of Atalanta BC, who were held to a 1-1 draw at home by fellow strugglers Reggina Calcio. Atalanta took the lead after nine minutes through Cristiano Doni, but Emiliano Bonazzoli's goal seven minutes into the second half earned the away side a draw.

Decisive late goals
Bottom side Torino Calcio took the lead at home to Piacenza FC two minutes before the hour through Alessandro Conticchio, but the away side were level within two minutes as Enzo Maresca equalised, before two goals in the final seven minutes from Eusebio Di Francesco and Claudio Ferrarese gave Piacenza all three points.

Goalless draw
The game between two sides challenging for a European place, Udinese Calcio and Brescia Calcio, ended goalless.
