Summer departure for Ajax duo

Members

AFC Ajax players Richard Witschge and Henk Timmer will leave the club at the end of the season.

No new deal
Former Dutch international Witschge has been told that his contract will not be extended when it expires in June following talks between Ajax coach Ronald Koeman and technical director Leo Beenhakker.

Spanish sojourn
Koeman had brought the 33-year-old back into the squad after a loan spell with Spanish side Deportivo Alavés last season, precipitated by the player's difficult relationship with previous coach Co Adriaanse. However, he will become a free agent in the summer. Witschge had rejoined his boyhood club from FC Girondins de Bordeaux in 1996 after spells with FC Barcelona and Blackburn Rovers FC. He first played for Ajax between 1987 and 1991.

Return to Alkmaar
Witschge will be followed out of the Amsterdam Arena by loan signing Timmer, who will return to AZ Alkmaar where he has a year left on his contract. The 31-year-old was brought in as cover for first-choice custodians Joey Didulica and Bogdan Lobont at the start of the season. But with both men having recovered from injuries, Timmer will go back to Alkmaar.

New deal for De Nooijer
Meanwhile, Ajax's Eredivisie rivals Feyenoord have handed 34-year-old defender Gerard de Nooijer a one-year contract after he impressed during a loan spell from SC Heerenveen.
