Thigh injury
Mario faces a six-week lay-off after damaging his thigh during Valladolid's 0-0 league draw at RC Celta de Vigo on Sunday. Tests carried out by the club's medical staff confirmed the seriousness of the injury, forcing the player to withdraw from the squad for Spain's Under-21 friendly international against Australia on Tuesday.
Welcome return
Mario has made 17 Primera División appearances this term, including two as a substitute. The 21-year-old Tenerife-born defender limped off after 68 minutes of the match at the Balaídos stadium, to be replaced by Javier Jiménez, who returned to action after three years on the sidelines with a knee injury. Valladolid are currently 15th in the table, three points off the relegation places.
