Two Italian goalkeepers will be competing to be Chelsea FC's No1 next season after the London club signed Marco Ambrosio from AC Chievo Verona as cover for Carlo Cudicini.
Three-year deal
The 30-year-old has signed a three-year contract at Chelsea, who will compete in the third and final UEFA Champions League qualifying round in August. "I'm extremely happy because it will be a great experience for me," said Ambrosio. "I will join a great club playing in a fantastic league and I will have the chance to play in the Champions League. It's a dream come true."
No new contract
Ambrosio made his Serie A debut in 1998 while at UC Sampdoria and has been acting as understudy to Chivevo regular Cristiano Lupatelli for the last two seasons. However, he took advantage of an injury to his team-mate to play in Chievo's final six league matches of the season. Ambrosio will replace Dutchman Ed de Goey, who is being released along with Jody Morris after six years at Stamford Bridge.
