Simeone says farewell to Atletico

Double winner
Simeone, now 34, was a member of Atlético's double-winning team of 1995/96 and returned to the club in the summer of 2003 after a four- year spell with S.S. Lazio. However, he has struggled to hold down a first-team place, making just four starts this term.

Feelings set aside
At a press conference at the Vicente Calderón this afternoon, Simeone said: "Now that I am 34, I have little time left to show that I still have plenty to give in football and I must forget about any feelings I have for this club in order to do what I enjoy most - playing football." Simeone, who was capped 106 times by his country, will join Racing for the start of their forthcoming pre-season in Mar del Plata.
