France round-up: Luyindula lifts Lyon

Members

Reigning champions Olympqiue Lyonnais returned to their best to beat AS Monaco FC 3-1.

Pegguy Luyindula was among the goalscorers as Olympqiue Lyonnais returned to the form which won them last year's Ligue 1 championship to beat AS Monaco FC 3-1 on Saturday.

Goal rush
Shabani Nonda's second-half goal gave the visitors some hope but by then they were already three goals down. First Luyindula's cross was turned in by Monaco's Sébastien Squillaci, then Mickaël Essien curled a 25th-minute strike to double the lead. Luyindula himself pounced a minute before the break.

Tapia on target
Lyon's conquerors last week, Lille OSC, wrapped up another high-profile 1-0 win by beating Paris Saint-Germain FC. Chile striker Héctor Tapia scored the only goal of the game during added time at the end of the first half. Montpellier Hérault SC were another side to register a valuable 1-0 away win, edging past FC Girondins de Bordeaux thanks to Habib Bamogo's 47th-minute strike. Bordeaux had Edurado Costa sent off with five minutes remaining.

Away wins
There were also away wins for AC Ajaccio and FC Metz, who defeated Le Mans UC 72 and SC Bastia respectively. Ajaccio's victory came courtesy of a solitary Mamadou Bagayoko goal, while Hakim Saci and Pape Thiaw did the damage in Metz's 2-0 success.

Vahirua volley
The remaining games all ended in home victories to nil. FC Nantes Atlantique saw off RC Lens 2-0 with a volley from Marama Vahirua and a close-range Grégory Pujol finish. RC Strasbourg recorded an identical scoreline in beating En Avant Guingamp - first-half goals from Mamadou Niang and Danijel Ljuboja doing the damage. A solitary strike from Brazilian Everson gave OGC Nice all three points against FC Sochaux-Montbéliard and Stéphane N'Guema's fourth-minute goal was all that split Stade Rennais FC and Toulouse FC at Route de Lorient.

Mido magic
On Friday, Olympique de Marseille continued their winning start to the new season as a goal from Ahmed Hossam 'Mido' earned a 1-0 victory against AJ Auxerre. The Egyptian striker scored the only goal of the game two minutes before the hour mark, heading a Didier Drogba cross into the net to seal Marseille's second successive league victory.
