Bayer 04 Leverkusen missed the chance to close the gap on Bundesliga leaders VfB Stuttgart to two points when they were held to a goalless draw by basement club 1. FC Köln on Sunday.
Just adrift
Stuttgart had been held to a goalless draw themselves on Saturday but Leverkusen failed to capitalise, despite creating plenty of goalscoring opportunities. They remain three points off the pace while Köln moved back to within three points of second-bottom Hertha BSC Berlin.
Seitz double
In the day's other game, FC Schalke 04 midfield player Jochen Seitz gave his side three points against visiting VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach by scoring both goals in a 2-1 victory. Seitz snatched an early opener and then fired in a powerful 20-metre drive to win the game after Ivo Ulich had equalised for struggling Mönchengladbach, who remain one point above the drop zone.
