Everton FC goalkeeper Richard Wright is to undergo surgery on his injured left knee on 3 December.
Colorado operation
The English international will be operated on in Dr Richard Steadman's clinic in Colorado, having last played in the reserves in October. However, Everton physio Mick Rathbone warned that after surgery the 26-year-old is likely to continue experiencing discomfort when he kicks the ball. "It is certainly not something that is career-threatening," said Rathbone. "But he may have to learn to live with it."
Southampton duo sign on
Staying in England, Southampton FC have agreed new contracts with Jason Dodd and Paul Telfer. Captain Dodd, who joined the club in 1989, has extended his deal for an extra 12 months until June 2005. Midfield player Telfer's contract now runs until June 2006 after signing for an additional two seasons. "I am very happy to be signing on again," said Telfer.
Dortmund chairman re-elected
Dr Gerd Niebaum has been re-elected as BV Borussia Dortmund chairman for another three years. The 55-year old, who has been in charge of the German side since 1986, won 751 votes from the 758 members. Manager Michael Meier, vice-chairman Henning Kreke and treasurer Hans-Joachim Watzke were also overwhelmingly voted back into their positions, while the general meeting was informed that the club's profits in the last 12 months were €3.3m, up from €2m.
Prunier leaves Toulouse
Veteran defender William Prunier has parted company with French Ligue 1 strugglers Toulouse FC. The 36-year-old agreed to leave after falling out of favour with coach Erik Mombaerts. "Today, William Prunier and Toulouse decided to end their collaboration," said the club website. Prunier still hopes to continue playing when the transfer window reopens in January.
Kalmar add Samuelson
Allsvenskan newcomers Kalmar FF have strengthed their squad with the signing of AIK Solna midfield player Svante Samuelsson. He has agreed a two-year deal and is the second addition to Kalmar's squad after promotion following the re-signing of Tobias Carlsson. Kalmar coach Nanne Bergstrand said: "We get a player who is good in the air, a strong fighter, who will be vital for us next year."
