Article body
Chelsea FC were held 1-1 by English Premiership strugglers Leeds United AFC, but kept the lead as Arsenal FC also faltered.
Pennant aids Arsenal
Leeds were bottom at the start of play, but Jermaine Pennant put them ahead on 18 minutes. Chelsea levelled midway through the second half through Damien Duff, but could not claim a winner meaning the side loaning Pennant to Leeds, Arsenal FC, could have gone top with victory at Leicester City FC.
Hignett levels
Gilberto put Arsenal ahead on the hour mark, but Ashley Cole was sent off and Craig Hignett claimed a dramatic last-gasp equaliser to make it 1-1. Arsenal, who face a crucial UEFA Champions League meeting with FC Lokomotiv Moskva on Wednesday, are a point behind Chelsea. Manchester United FC, like Chelsea, are already in the Champions League last 16 and are also within two points of the leaders after beating Aston Villa FC 4-0, Ruud van Nistelrooij and Diego Forlán scoring twice.
Sava saves Fulham
Fulham FC needed late goals from Sean Davis and Facundo Sava to come from behind and stay in fourth with a 2-1 victory against Bolton Wanderers FC. That result keeps Fulham ahead of Liverpool FC, who drew 1-1 with fellow UEFA Cup contenders Newcastle United FC. Danny Murphy put Liverpool in front on six minutes, but an Alan Shearer penalty, his 13th league goal this season, levelled matters after the break.
Blackburn joy
Struggling Blackburn Rovers FC secured a vital 4-0 win at high-flying Birmingham City FC, the home side also having former French international Christophe Dugarry sent off in the middle of the nine-minute spell in which the visitors scored their first three goals. Middlesbrough FC kept their sixth consecutive Premiership clean sheet as they drew 0-0 with Portsmouth FC, who had Steve Stone dismissed.
Keane treble
Wolverhampton Wanderers FC slipped to last place behind Leeds as they lost 5-2 at Tottenham Hotspur FC, thanks to a hat-trick from a man who began his career at Molineux, Robbie Keane. The other side in the bottom three, Everton FC, play Manchester City FC on Sunday, when Southampton meet Charlton Athletic FC.
