Miller magic undoes United

Members

Kenny Miller gave Wolverhampton Wanderers FC a shock 1-0 win against the leaders Manchester United FC.

Manchester United FC missed the chance to extend their lead at the top of the English Premiership to four points as Kenny Miller's strike earned Wolverhampton Wanderers FC a surprise 1-0 win today.

Decisive strike
The Scottish international striker scored the only goal of the game at Molineux seven minutes past the hour, evading the attentions of United substitute Wes Brown before sidefooting into the net to lift the home side off the bottom.

Late misses
United might have taken a draw from the match, but Paul Scholes sent an effort wide, and Wolves goalkeeper Michael Oakes made a fine save to deny David Bellion.

Sunday chance
The result means that Arsenal FC remain one point behind United and can take over at the top on Sunday when they travel to Aston Villa FC. Third-placed Chelsea FC, meanwhile, face Birmingham City FC the same day. Newcastle United FC play Fulham FC on Monday.

Charlton cheer
Elsewhere, the former Everton FC player Graham Stuart scored the only goal of the game as Charlton Athletic FC won 1-0 at Goodison Park to consolidate fourth place. Liverpool FC lost more ground in the race for a UEFA Champions League place as they lost 2-1 at Tottenham Hotspur FC.

Relegation fears
Leeds United AFC replaced Wolves at the foot of the table after losing 2-1 at Southampton FC, for whom Brett Ormerod and Kevin Phillips were on target. Two goals from Paul Dickov seemed to have helped Leicester City FC to a crucial win at Middlesbrough FC, but two last-gasp goals - from Massimo Maccarone and a John Curtis own goal - gave the home side an unlikely draw.

Problems for Portsmouth
Portsmouth FC were beaten 1-0 at Bolton Wanderers FC after Kevin Davies's strike, and Manchester City FC drew 1-1 with Blackburn Rovers FC.
