Arsenal FC maintained their two-point lead at the top of the Premiership table on Saturday.

Arsenal FC maintained their two-point lead at the top of the Premiership as the leaders and second-placed Manchester United FC both won away from home.

Late drama
While Arsenal won comfortably at Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, United squandered a 3-0 half-time lead against Everton FC, only to take all three points thanks to Ruud van Nistelrooij's 89th-minute winner.

Three-goal cushion
The visitors were quickly into their stride at Goodison Park as Louis Saha raced clear to give United a ninth-minute lead. Van Nistelrooij scored his 100th goal for the club after 24 minutes, and the match looked to be all over a minute before the half-hour as Saha scored his second and United's third.

Everton fightback
However, David Unsworth headed Everton back into the match four minutes after half-time, and when John O'Shea's own goal made the score 2-3 United looked vulnerable. Kevin Kilbane's glancing header seemed to have earned Everton a draw, but Van Nistelrooij's late strike gave United the points.

Ganea goal
Dutch striker Dennis Bergkamp put Arsenal in front at Molineux after only nine minutes, but Arsène Wenger's team were pegged back midway through the first half as Romanian striker Ioan Ganea volleyed the home side level.

Decisive spell
However, the game was decided in Arsenal's favour in a devastating five-minute spell early in the second half. Thierry Henry restored the visitor's lead two minutes before the hour, and Kolo Touré effectively sealed the points moments later with a far-post header.

Newcastle fourth
Bolton Wanderers FC twice led against Liverpool FC through Nicky Hunt and Youri Djorkaeff but goals from Sami Hyypiä and Steven Gerrard earned the visitors a draw. The result enabled Newcastle United FC to move up to fourth place, as Shola Ameobi, a Gerry Taggart own goal and Jermaine Jenas secured a 3-1 win against Leicester City FC, with Newcastle's Gary Speed becoming the first player to make 400 Premiership appearances.

Seven-goal thriller
In an extraordinary match at White Hart Lane, Tottenham Hotspur FC – who were knocked out of the FA Cup in midweek by ten-man Manchester City FC having led 3-0 at half-time – led Portsmouth FC three times, but the match seemed to be destined for a draw until Gustavo Poyet's late winner ensured Tottenham won 4-3.

Blackburn boost
Aston Villa FC won 2-0 against Leeds United FC, while Jonathan Stead's debut strike gave Blackburn Rovers FC an important victory at Middlesbrough FC. Fulham FC drew 0-0 at Southampton FC.

Sunday matches
On Sunday, third-placed Chelsea FC face Charlton Athletic FC, while Manchester City face Birmingham City FC.
