Familiar trio set early pace

Members

PSV Eindhoven, AFC Ajax and Feyenoord all recorded emphatic wins to move to the top of the Eredivisie.

Emphatic win
On Saturday, PSV assumed top spot by beating AZ Alkmaar 5-1 at the Philips stadium. Despite captain Mark van Bommel giving his side a first-half lead, the floodgates did not open in earnest until André Ooijer doubled the advantage on the hour, nodding in a corner kick. Ji-Sung Park's goal and two from John de Jong completed the scoring for the home side while Adil Ramzi scored for Alkmaar.

Table toppers
PSV were overtaken on goal difference 24 hours later by Feyenoord, who followed up last week's resounding opening day 6-1 victory against De Graafschap with a 4-0 win away against Willem II. Salomon Kalou, Hossam Ghaly, Dirk Kuijt and Shinji Ono, who only returned from Olympic duty with Japan on Friday, all scored for the visitors.

False dawn
Ajax also won by a four-goal margin as they beat NAC Breda 6-2 at the Amsterdam Arena. Yuri Cornelisse gave the visitors a surprise lead after eleven minutes, but Zlatan Ibrahimovic calmed Ajax nerves almost immediately, equalising two minutes later. The Swedish international later scored a second, while John Heitinga, Maxwell and Wesley Sneijder also found the net.

Late winner
The dominant trio are joined on maximum points by SVB Vitesse and NEC Nijmegen. NEC had Said Boutahar to thank after his added-time goal gave his side all three points against ADO Den Haag. It capped an excellent turnaround for NEC, who had trailed to Rik Platvoet's goal until Romano Denneboom's leveller on 79 minutes. A solitary Theo Janssen strike just after the half-hour mark was enough for Vitesse.

See-saw contest
Another last-minute goal deciding Roda JC's game against SC Heerenveen. Roel Brouwers sealed a 4-3 win for the Kerkrade outfit four minutes after Yuri Rose had levelled the scores for Heerenveen for the third time. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Marcel Seip were also on target for the visitors, while Cristiano, Arouna Kone and Edrissa Sonko all scored for Roda.

Van der Haar hat-trick
In the weekend's other games, De Graafschap were held 1-1 by FC Den Bosch and Maarten Martens gave RKC Waalwijk a narrow 1-0 win at FC Twente. Finally, a Hans van der Haar hat-trick helped FC Utrecht celebrate the first game at their refurbished stadium in style, winning 5-1 against RBC Roosendaal.
