Juventus FC extended their lead at the top of Serie A to five points after defeating nearest rivals FC Messina Peloro 2-1.

Five out of six
Goals from Marcelo Zalayeta and Pavel Nedved gave Juve their fifth victory in six league matches. The Uruguay striker, in for the injured David Trezeguet, headed in after 25 minutes and Nedved added a second ten minutes after the interval following a long distance ball from Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Riccardo Zampagna scored a consolation for the visitors.

Totti on target
Earlier, recently-appointed AS Roma coach Lugi Del Neri saw his side win 2-0 at AS Livorno Calcio. Vincenzo Montella headed the ball to Francesco Totti on the half hour mark and he fired into the bottom corner. Montella added Roma's second in the 69th minute with a tremendous solo effort from long-distance. Montella is now top scorer in the league with six goals as his side rose to ninth ahead of tomorrow's fixtures, but Livorno are bottom and remain without a win.
