News round-up: SV Austria Salzburg have signed Slovenia defender Aleksander Knavs from VfL Bochum 1848.

Bochum's domestic rivals Hamburger SV have signed German Under-19 international midfielder Markus Karl for an undisclosed fee from SpVgg Greuther Fürth on a three-year deal. Meanwhile, Hannover 96 have loaned 21-year-old goalkeeper Daniel Haas to third division TSG Hoffenheim for next season. Haas is contracted to Hannover until summer 2007.

In the Netherlands, RKC Waalwijk have appointed Adrie Koster as their new coach. The 50-year-old, who is currently in the promotion/relegation play-offs with VVV-Venlo, signed a two-season deal today after an agreement between the clubs. He succeeds Erwin Koeman, who leaves for Feyenoord this summer.

Feyenoord midfield player Shinji Ono has broken a metatarsal bone while preparing with the Japanese national team for their forthcoming FIFA World Cup qualifier against Bahrain. It is not known how long he will be out, but it seems likely that he will miss this month's FIFA Confederations Cup.

Another Eredivisie team, NAC Breda, have signed Belgian goalkeeper Davy Schollen from KRC Genk for an undisclosed fee. The 27-year-old spent last season on loan at NAC and has signed a contract until summer 2008.

Former English youth international Sean Doherty is also on his way to the Eredivisie, with the 20-year-old left-winger having agreed a two-year deal, including the option of a further two seasons, with ADO Den Haag after a free transfer from Fulham FC. He spent last season on loan at Blackpool FC.

Also leaving the English Premiership is Irish international striker Jon Macken, who has signed for relegated Crystal Palace FC after being released by Manchester City FC. Macken, 27, has signed a four-year deal.

AEK Athens FC have begun preparations for their 2005/06 UEFA Cup campaign with the signing of midfield player Miltiadis Sapanis on a free transfer from Panathinaikos FC. The 29-year-old has agreed a deal until 2007 with the option for a further 12 months.

AEK's Greek rivals Iraklis FC have extended the contract of 27-year-old Cameroonian international midfield player Joël Epallé for another two years, also with a 12-month extension clause.

Scottish Premier League (SPL) team Heart of Midlothian FC, yet to appoint a successor to head coach John Robertson, have negotiated a deal with reigning Lithuanian champions FBK Kaunas to keep Saulius Mikoliunas, Deividas Cesnauskis and Marius Kizys at Tynecastle for another season.

Meanwhile, SPL newcomers Falkirk FC have completed the signing of defender Kenny Milne, who has left Partick Thistle FC, and former Airdrie United FC striker Alan Gow. Both players have signed two-year-contracts.

Belgian club KSK Beveren have signed former French youth international Olivier Fontenette. The 23-year-old left-winger has agreed a two-year contract with a two-year option after moving from French third division team AS Cherbourg.

AEK Larnaca FC of Cyprus have made their first signing of the summer by snapping up Romanian midfielder Narcis Raducan from FCM Bacau. Raducan, 31, passed a medical and signed a one-year deal with the option for a further 12 months.
