Rasiak ready
Tottenham landed Poland striker Grzegorz Rasiak for €2.9m from Derby County FC. The 26-year-old scored 16 goals in 35 second division matches for Derby last season and will provide extra height for a Tottenham forward line recently shorn of Sevilla FC-bound Frédéric Kanouté.
'Honest player'
The London team's manager Martin Jol was delighted to secure the services of a player who has registered six goals in 20 international appearances. "Rasiak is a tall target man, a hard-working and honest player with a good goalscoring record," said the Dutchman. Tottenham had already signed midfielder Jermaine Jenas and defender Lee Young-Pyo yesterday.
Solano back
Newcastle, buoyed by the Wednesday morning arrival of England striker Michael Owen, finished a good day's work by re-signing Nolberto Solano from Aston Villa FC. The 30-year-old has agreed a two-year contract after 18 months at Villa, with winger James Milner, 19, travelling in the opposite direction on a season-long loan. "It's great to be back at Newcastle and I hope we can have a really successful season here," Solano said.
Robson pleased
Finally, West Brom acquired Curtis Davies from second division Luton Town FC for €4.4m on a four-year contract. Manager Bryan Robson said: "Curtis is one of the most outstanding young centre-halves I've seen for some time." Davies takes the Birmingham club's summer spending to €13m following the additions of Nathan Ellington, Darren Carter, Diomansy Kamara, Steve Watson and on-loan Chris Kirkland.
