Rivaldo fires up Olympiacos

Members

Rivaldo scored twice as Olympiacos CFP took a huge step towards claiming their tenth title in eleven years with victory against AEK Athens FC.

Okkas header
Grigorios Georgatos crossed for Ioannis Okkas to head the home side in front after only six minutes and Olympiacos almost doubled their lead when Yaya Touré struck the crossbar with a powerful shot on 31 minutes. Olympiacos were comfortably in command but had to wait until the 66th minute to strike again, Rivaldo finding the net with a long-range, left-foot drive.

Rivaldo double
AEK were offered a glimmer of hope on 77 minutes when Ieroklis Stoltidis was sent off, but despite some late pressure they could not force their way back into the game. Nikolaos Lyberopoulos hit the woodwork with two minutes to play and though the rebound fell to Vassilios Lakis, his shot was spectacularly saved by Olympiacos goalkeeper Antonios Nikopolidis. Olympiacos sealed victory in the fourth minute of injury time, Rivaldo lobbing the goalkeeper to record his eighth goal in the past month.

Panathinaikos victory
Olympiacos are nine points clear of AEK, with Panathinaikos FC, 2-0 winners against Kallithea FC, a further three points behind. Skoda Xanthi FC defeated Atromitos FC 1-0 to climb to fourth place, while PAOK FC lost 2-1 at Larissa FC and are sixth. Ionikos FC edged past Akratitos FC by 3-2, OFI Crete FC beat Egaleo FC 1-0 and Panionios NFC and Levadiakos FC drew 1-1.
