Double offence
Traces of the drug were found in a sample Bachini gave in a doping control test following his club, AC Siena's Serie A match at S.S. Lazio on 4 December. He had previously been banned for nine months for testing positive for cocaine while playing for Brescia Calcio in 2004.
Italy caps
Bachini, 30, had been temporarily suspended in the wake of the Lazio game, in anticipation of a final decision on his case. Siena had already cancelled his contract. The winger was capped twice by Italy in the late 1990s when his form for Udinese Calcio earned him a move to Juventus. He also played for US Lecce and Parma FC.
