'Nice moment'
The 35-year-old centre-back played a significant role in Everton finishing sixth in the 2006/07 Premier League and needed no time to think about penning a new deal. Speaking to the Merseyside team's official website, he said: "It is a nice moment for me. I dreamed of playing for Everton when I was a five-year-old lad and now, hopefully, this is the club where I will end my career." Stubbs is in his second spell at Everton after a six-month stay at Sunderland AFC ended in January 2006. He first joined the club, who released goalkeeper Richard Wright and defender Alessandro Pistone yesterday, in July 2001 from Celtic FC. Everton will enter the 2007/08 UEFA Cup in September's first round, having last competed in the 2005/06 edition.
