SL Benfica moved to within a point of Liga leaders FC Porto in Portugal after winning 1-0 at CF Estrela da Amadora on Monday night.
Title race
The Lisbon club were able to take full advantage of Porto's home defeat by Sporting Clube de Portugal on Saturday thanks to an 80th-minute free-kick from midfielder Petit which sealed the three points. The victory leaves Benfica firmly placed on Porto's coat-tails before the two teams meet in their next league match on 1 April. Sporting are a further five points adrift of top spot but still in contention after defeating the champions on their own ground.
