Revelation
The 24-year-old, who will represent his country at this summer's Copa América, has scored 21 goals in 33 league games this season, having previously been a revelation at Club Nacional in his homeland. The 2006 Paraguay player of the year, Cardozo will hope to continue that form in Lisbon, not least in helping Benfica negotiate the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie that awaits them in August. Benfica now own 80 per cent of the player's ownership with the Argentinian club retaining the remaining share.
