Hofmann receives Austrian accolade

SK Rapid Wien captain Steffen Hofmann has been voted Austrian Bundesliga player of the season by the presidents, managers and coaches of the league.

The 27-year-old German midfielder, who is in his second stint at the club after re-signing from TSV 1860 München in January 2006, has scored ten goals and provided 23 assists in 34 matches for the league leaders this term. "It is always nice to receive individual awards," Hofmann said. "This is another great success in my career so far." Rapid, who top the table by four points, can claim the championship in their penultimate Bundesliga game against SCR Altach on Sunday.
