A leading football academy in Bosnia and Herzegovina has played host to 94 teams from six countries as the Junior Champions school staged the fourth edition of the Junior Futsal Cup.
The capital-based academy was the venue for the heavily subscribed tournament which attracted more than 1,000 players representing Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia and Lebanon.
The competition was divided into four age categories – children born in 2001, 2000, 1999 and 1998 – with the emphasis being on fair play and friendliness throughout.
"I am thrilled Sarajevo hosted around 1,500 young players, along with their coaches, parents and supporters, for three days," said Almir Prguda, a coach at the school. "I am told everybody enjoyed it. The aim of the tournament was to bring together young players and for them to socialise and make friends through sport.
"The tournament had even greater significance in that the players came from countries that were once united as one nation. I expect that next year we will have even more teams."
This year's winners were: SF Piksi Pale from Bosnia and Herzegovina (2001), Slovenia's NK Maribor (2000), and Bosnian sides NK Champion Ilidza Sarajevo (1999) and FK Budućnost Banovići (1998).
